From the WGBH Forum Network: "Jay E. Hakes discusses his book-in-progress, The Quest for Energy Independence: From Nixon to Reagan. Hakes came to the Carter Library in 2000, and since that time the museum has hosted major traveling exhibitions that have included Norman Lear's copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Emancipation Proclamation. During most of the 1990's, he served as the Administrator of the Energy Information Administration, the independent data and analytic arm of the US Department of Energy. He has testified before congressional committees on energy issues on 26 occasions and briefed major officials throughout the US government and around the world. He has held a variety of other government posts including at the Carter White House and the staff of Florida Governor and Senator Bob Graham. He holds a PhD in political science from Duke University and began his career teaching at the University of New Orleans. "
